– The Beer Beginning

Owners Aaron and Christine Holley graduated from Kellam High School (Class of ’06) and Virginia Tech (Class of ’10). They spent five years in Northern Virginia, where Aaron was active duty in the United States Navy, and Christine was an engineer in the semiconductor manufacturing industry. Most importantly, they were perfecting beer recipes in their 5-gallon homebrew setup. After a trip to Germany, they discovered their dream would be to open a brewery that would bring a piece of the German beer culture to Virginia Beach. Their passion for the brewing process, beer engineering, and love of good times with great people led Aaron and Christine have developed Wasserhund Brewing Company.

Beer Notes

Wasserhund Brewing Company, meaning “water dog” in German, was born from a love of the beach, dogs, and German beer. We aspire to bring the German beer culture to Virginia Beach in the best way by brewing the highest quality ales and lagers and providing the environment to enjoy them with family, friends, and just good company.

We also match our beer with artisan pizza made to order in our brick oven. Or you can order beer sausages and add some sauerkraut for an authentic German experience.

Call it whatever you want; we call it German-style brewing with a Beach kick. Honestly, it’s good beer and good times.

First Attempt with a New POS System

STARTING POINT

We started working with NCR Silver for Table Service & Bar Management. The system was manageable and relatively easy to set up, however, there were limitations on how in-depth we could build out our inventory tracking and usage.

DISADVANTAGES

The system did not allow inventory tracking how we needed it and limited the options for online ordering. Support for the POS was subpar at best, and we felt we outgrew the system. We sought other POS software, including Touch Bistro. However, they could not configure the pizza orders how we have them (with additional toppings costing differently per size. We discussed Revel with our Payment Processor, Priority Payment Systems Gulf Coast, did a demo, and decided Big Eye POS is the perfect fit for our business.

THE RESULT

We now have a system in place that is easy to manage and has all the detailed reports we need. Revel handles our full menu in house, online ordering application, inventory tracking, labor & employee tracking and maintains smooth operation in our fast-paced environment.

From NCR to Big Eye POS

NCR did not have an easy delivery option. Also, the wireless server configuration did not give us complete reliability when the internet or power went down. There was no ease of use and functionality for the wait staff (they could not split a check always.)

Tracking on NCR could not be broken down and sent to reports with the ease and as detail as Revel. Big Eye POS helped implement a managed network for our POS System, so our system never has any downtime. Even when the internet goes out, we still fully function.

They set up our online menu so our customers could easily place orders with delivery as an option! Boosting our sales and reducing our labor cost.
